He was introduced with a great deal of mystery surrounding him and he was written out with that mystique intact. Both the Cell and Buu arcs referenced him as a measure of power, and the effect he had on the characters and world were never forgotten. In bringing Frieza back for Dragon Ball Super , Toriyama chose to shake up the situation and give Frieza the strength to match his popularity.
There's more to strength than just hitting hard. In comparison, Golden Frieza is equal to Goku at his absolute strongest at least before he triggers Ultra Instinct. Transformations in Dragon Ball are really weird when you think about it. When triggering his Golden form for the first time, Frieza comments to Goku how he deliberately designed the form to be recognizable.
Golden Frieza is designed as an intentional perversion of Super Saiyan. What exactly is the deal with King Cold? Is he stronger than Frieza? Is he in his second form? Does he have more forms? Is this just what he looks like? Wherever you stand on the King Cold dilemma, one thing is certain in light of Resurrection F : Frieza honored his dear old papa by modeling his second transformation after him. It does make sense why would Frieza would design a transformation with his father in mind.
While King Cold seems more than okay with Future Trunks slicing Frieza in half, the two are depicted with a fairly amicable relationship. They seem heartless by nature so just getting along and being able to have a friendly conversation might be enough to constitute familial bonding. Golden is based off his hatred of Super Saiyan and his second form looks exactly like his dad.
Dragon Ball is a story inherently about legacy. This is a thread that continues throughout the whole series, specifically with the additions of Gohan, Trunks, Goten, Pan, and Uub. A character having a child stronger than them, even if just potentially, is a staple of the Dragon Ball franchise. Even Frieza has a son! In fact, his introductory chapter runs out of pages before he can act, a fact that Kuriza takes incredibly poorly.
It perhaps goes without saying that Kuriza is non-canon, but there really is nothing in Dragon Ball that would contradict his existence. The resemblance really is too uncanny to ignore.
The main antagonists of the Alien franchise, Xenomorphs are one of H. Not every Saiyan has been eliminated by Frieza, but Frieza has eliminated every Saiyan through his actions. Confusing, I know. When Frieza transforms into his final form, his tail appears perfectly whole again. In a game like Dragon Ball Fusions obviously the various fusion techniques played a major role in the story. But it's not just unlikely fusion pairings like we have seen in other Dragon Ball games.
As interesting as it is to fuse two characters like Krillin and Cell, the novelty of that has worn off by now. Dragon Ball Fusions took things a step further by not just allowing two characters to fuse, but also introducing five-character fusions. The major villain of the game is the result of such a merging of personalities, and naturally Frieza is part of the bunch.
Frieza and Cell's personalities are the dominant ones in this new creation, and the two aliens use their newfound strength to devastate the world and kill a Super Saiyan Blue Goku. This rare new ability temporarily puts Frieza's new form at the top of the food chain among all the fighters.
It has been pretty well established by now that for Saiyans, getting angry is an advantage to them. Many of the strongest Saiyans ascend to their greatest heights after becoming infuriated against their opponent. It's through this method that Goku is able to become a Super Saiyan in the first place, becoming enraged at the death of Krillin at the hands of Frieza. This also seems to apply to some of the antagonists, though.
For instance, in the Battle of Gods storyline we see Beerus becoming more dangerous after he becomes irritated at being denied the food he wants. An aura surrounds the god, noticeably increasing his power and causing everyone around him to take notice. Frieza exhibits this same ability during the Resurrection F saga, beginning to glow in his Golden form after becoming frustrated with Goku.
So Frieza might be more like a Saiyan than he thought or would like. Considering all the members of Frieza's race have tcold-related names, you'd really think at least one of them would have shown off ice powers by now. But apparently in the manga and anime it's just another pun from Toriyama, like how all the pure blood Saiyans have vegetable-related names.
But in the video games we actually have seen Frieza be able to live up to the powers you'd imagine him having based on his name. In Supersonic Warriors 2 one of the attacks Frieza and his brother Cooler are able to use in tandem is creating an ice storm to damage their opponents. Obviously it's not canon that Frieza can do this, but it's still pretty neat to see. Elemental powers certainly stand out among all the typical energy blasts fighters usually utilize.

In Cooler's Revenge , Gohan tail is shown to have apparently grown back at some point after Goku's return to Earth.
Interestingly, Gohan's tail allows Cooler's Armored Squadron to identify as one of the surviving Saiyans, causing them to briefly mistake him for the Saiyan they were searching for, unaware that Gohan was the son of the Saiyan who had defeated Frieza. Gohan's tail proved to be a liability during his initial encounter with Cooler's henchman, as Dore managed to grab him by the tail, weakening the young half-saiyan and preventing him from fighting back.

In the second episode of Dragon Ball Z , Raditz whips Krillin in the face with his tail which sends him flying into Kame House making it one of the few times a Saiyan is shown using their tail to attack. In the next episode Goku squeezes Raditz's tail, causing him terrible agony and getting him down for Piccolo to use another Special Beam Cannon, but Raditz tricks Goku into letting him go.
When placing Raditz in a Full-Nelson , Goku explains he did not grab his brother's tail once again because he feared that Raditz would most likely sever his own tail to escape if he tried to Raditz's own response implies that he would have severed his tail had Goku tried to grab it a second time.
All of these events occur in the manga as well. In Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 , Nappa states that Raditz would always skip tail training, thus explaining why he was susceptible to being weakened when his tail was pulled unlike his partners Nappa and Vegeta who had trained to overcome it.
In Dragon Ball Legends during the Tournament of Time , Raditz from shortly before his death having experienced having his tail grabbed by his brother realizes he must get rid of his weakness and as a result finally trains his tail much like how his brother had in his youth after being told to do so by his deceased Grandpa Gohan. This proves advantageous for Raditz when he encounters Piccolo from when he was training Gohan during the Tournament, as like his comrade Nappa, Raditz turns the tables on Piccolo when he tries grabbing his tail to weaken him.
During the battle with the Saiyans, Piccolo devises a plan that involves him grabbing Nappa 's tail. However, this plan fails, as Nappa is immune to this weakness and beats Piccolo, Gohan, and Krillin. In Xenoverse 2 , Nappa mentions training his tail. Vegeta 's tail is cut off by Yajirobe and does not grow back. Though in Dragon Ball GT , it is regrown twice through artificial means.
The first time is when Vegeta is under the control of Baby , and it is cut off by Goku. The second time is when it is regrown again so that he can become a Super Saiyan 4, but he does not retain this tail after he returns to his base form. Interestingly, while he follows the custom of wrapping his tail around his waist, after losing his historic Energy Clash with Goku's Kaioken Kamehameha he lets his tail hang loose despite still being on the battlefield, though this is likely due to him deciding to resort to his Great Ape form.
In Dragon Ball Legends , there are two playable versions of Vegeta where he allows his tail to hang loose. The movie villain Broly is shown to have a tail, as seen in flashback to his infancy. As an adult, his tail is not seen, but in a concept arts of Broly shows that his tail is hidden under his clothing.
The original Broly is implied to have retained his tail in Dragon Ball Heroes due to his accessing the Super Saiyan 4 form, which requires both that he have a tail, and become a Great Ape and control his actions in that form. In Dragon Ball Super: Broly , the Saiyan engineer Beets is shown to let his tail hang loose likely due to his status as a Non-combatant Low-class Saiyan given the fact that Paragus had to warn him not to stare at Vampa's moon as he was unaware it could trigger the Great Ape transformation. Beets follows the more experienced Saiyan warrior's advice and does not transform and is eventually killed by Paragus to after Beets discovers their ship can no longer fly.
Tarble seems to be the last living Saiyan to be seen still having his original tail after Paragus is killed by Frieza during the Broly Saga. When he arrives on Earth to request Vegeta's help, his tail quickly gives away his Saiyan heritage.
